Christmas Oncology Centre Outreach -  Abakaliki. December 2024

In a heart-warming sequel to the #PinkOctober, our Team of Volunteers in Ebonyi returned to the Oncology Centre at AE-FUNAI Teaching Hospital Abakaliki.

They provided medical supplies and spent time with cancer patients on the wards and in clinics.

The Director of the Centre, Dr Iyare, thanked our volunteers for bringing some much needed yuletide cheer.

Pink October: Breast Cancer Awareness Events 2024

Following the theme: No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone; we visited breast cancer patients and survivors at various hospitals in the country to provide medical supplies, encouragement and moral support.

With the support of our Partners and Donors, we were able to reach out to about 300 people across Edo, Lagos and Ebonyi states.

We also held awareness rallies in partnership with the hospital managements.

The Fresh Air Campaign: NoTobacco May 2024

To support the WHO initiative for 2024 aimed at protecting young people from the effects of exposure and use of tobacco products, CANCAD visited secondary schools across Nigeria to engage with young people. We hammered on the health risks of smoking, using shisha and other tobacco products, as well as exposure to second-hand smoke. Our campaign was tagged The Fresh Air Campaign.

Our teams of volunteers visited schools in Edo, Ebonyi and Lagos states - one highlight was playing games with balloons where the students had fun while learning the importance of lung health!

Research Training Course March - April 2024

Free 5-week online course on fundamentals of Research Methodology including general principles, ethics & research integrity, study designs & sample size determination, descriptive & inferential statistics and publishing.

We had experienced facilitators from across the country including Professor Morenike Folayan Ukpong of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, and Dr Zaharadeen Babandi of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Zaria.

CME points awarded in partnership with Nigerian Medical Association Kaduna.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Webinar September 2023

In Nigeria, like many other low and middle income countries, outcomes for childhood and adolescent cancers can be much better. A large part of this is likely due to late diagnosis influenced by a low index of suspicion.

During this month of September which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we focused on promoting awareness on childhood cancers. Our main event was a webinar in partnership with;

The themes were: Overview of WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer:THE CUREALL FRAMEWORK and

Reducing the Burden of Childhood Cancers through Early Detection: THE ROLE OF PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS

Hepatitis Day July 2023

Viral hepatitis especially B & C are some of the leading causes of liver cancer worldwide. CANCAD marked World Hepatitis Day by holding free screening and vaccination across 4 sites in Abuja, Edo and Ebonyi states.

With the support of our partners, we were able screen more than 500 people for Hepatitis B & C, and vaccinate more than 200 for Hepatitis B as well. All at no expense. Full report and photos.

No Tobacco Day May 2023

Smoking is the biggest risk factor for lung cancer and other different cancers to varying degrees. It also leads to a generally reduced quality of life.

For World NoTobacco Day 2023, we ran a month-long online campaign and held outreaches across 2 sites in Edo state. Our teams partnering with the Department of Psychiatry ISTH visited a commercial motor park and mini market to interact with at-risk groups on the dangers of smoking especially relating to risk of cancer.

Conquering Cancer Jun 2022

Exclusive screening of Cervical Cancer documentary 'Conquering Cancer' sponsored by Varian.

It was a very interactive session with school-age girls, health workers (especially community health workers and Nurses), and local policymakers
